2026년 4월의 네 번째 주가 시작됐다. 지난주 마지막 페이지에 ‘엄마~’와 ‘아빠~’가 가족사진이 아닌 가족 옆자리에서도 한 번 더 들리길, 첫 질문 ‘뭐야?’가 한 줄 더 따라오길 적었는데, 이번 주는 두 줄이 직접 답을 받지는 않았지만, 한 칸 다른 자리에서 봄 소풍과 반딧불이라는 두 새 단어가 차례로 들어온 한 주였다. 화요일에 봄 소풍과 도시락, 숨바꼭질 ‘꼭꼭 숨어라~’와 ‘찾았다~’가 한 줄에 자리했고, 수요일에는 반딧불 야광 막대를 똑똑 부러뜨려 불이 나오는 모습에 ‘이야~ 우와~’라고 반복하며 탐색한 자리가 들어왔다. 목요일과 금요일은 휴원이 자리한 평일이었고, 평일 다섯 칸 중 알림장이 들어온 자리가 두 칸이었다. 같은 한 주 안에 한 칸 무거운 줄도 한 번 들어왔다. 월요일 새벽 부모 메시지에 아직 콧물이 좋아지지 않고 기침 가래가 좀 더 늘어난 것 같아 병원 들렀다 등원하겠다는 한 줄이 자리했다. 한 달 전까지 거실 약 봉투 자리가 비어 있던 자리가, 이번 주는 그 자리에 새 봉투 한 개가 한 칸 자리할 차례에 있었다. 잠든 옆에 누워, 봄 소풍의 한 칸과 약 봉투의 한 칸이 같은 주 안에 같이 자리해 있다는 게 한 번 더 또렷해졌다.
월요일 (4/27) – 병원 들렀다 등원
월요일은 새벽 0시 17분쯤 어머니가 새 담임 선생님께 한 줄을 짧게 남겼다. 주말에는 별다른 일정 없이 집에서 푹 쉬면서 잘 놀았다는 줄, 문화센터에서 개구리가 되어도 보고 왔다는 줄, 그런데 아직 콧물이 좋아지지 않고 기침 가래가 좀 더 늘어난 것 같아 혹시 몰라 병원 들렀다 가려 한다는 줄, 조금 늦을 수도 있다는 짧은 한 줄. 거실 약 봉투 자리가 한 주 만에 다시 한 칸 채워질 차례라는 한 줄이 그 메시지 안에 자리하고 있었다.
이 날 알림장은 따로 들어오지 않았다. 병원 들렀다 가는 길에 평일 첫 등원 시간이 한 칸 늦춰져 있었고, 알림장의 한 줄 자리도 그날 안에서 한 칸 비어 있는 자리에 있었다. 작은 어깨가 작은 진료실 의자에 한 번 앉았다 가는 자리가 그 평일에 들어와 있었다.
화요일 (4/28) – 봄 소풍과 ‘찾았다~ 하린이~’
화요일 알림장은 7시 14분쯤 들어왔다. ‘봄 소풍을 다녀왔다’는 첫 줄이 들어왔다. ‘봄 소풍’이라는 세 글자가 알림장에 처음 등장했다. 한 달 전 봄꽃이 처음 들어왔던 자리가, 이번 주는 그 봄 한가운데로 한 칸 더 깊이 들어가 ‘소풍’이라는 단어로 한 칸 옆에 자리하고 있었다.
봄 소풍하면 도시락이겠다며 ‘내가 좋아하는 음식이 무엇일까?’라고 물어보았더니 김밥, 식빵 등 다양한 도시락을 포장한 뒤 ‘냠냠~’ 맛있게 먹어보았다는 다음 줄에서, ‘내가 좋아하는 음식이 무엇일까?’라는 질문이 따옴표 안에 들어와 있었다. 한 주 전 한 음절 빠진 곤충 이름 따라하기에 이어, 이번 주는 어른의 질문 한 줄이 따옴표 안에 함께 자리하고 있었다.
소풍 왔으면 즐겁게 놀아야 한다는 다음 줄에 이어, 리듬에 몸을 맡기고 즐겁게 춤을 추며 친구들과 신나게 노래를 부르며 율동을 했다는 줄, 그리고 노래가 끝난 뒤 ‘꼭꼭 숨어라~ 숨바꼭질~’ 놀이를 해보았다는 다음 줄에서, ‘숨바꼭질~’이라는 다섯 글자가 따옴표 안에 들어와 있었다. ‘꼭꼭 숨어라~’와 ‘숨바꼭질~’이 한 줄 안에 같이 자리한 첫 자리였다.
가장 길게 멈췄던 줄은 그 다음이었다. ‘‘다 숨었니? 찾는다~’라는 말에 키득키득 웃으면서 기다리는 모습이 사랑스러웠다’는 줄, 그리고 ‘‘찾았다~ 하린이~’라는 말에 귀엽게 웃어주며 고개를 들지 않고 계속 ‘니니~’라고 말하며 자신을 찾아보라고 이야기 해주는 모습’이라는 다음 줄에서, ‘찾았다~ 하린이~’와 ‘니니~’라는 두 박자가 따옴표 안에 차례로 들어와 있었다. 두 달 전 ‘니니니~’라고 선생님을 부르던 그 자리가, 이번 주는 ‘니니~’라는 두 박자로 자기 자신을 가리키며 어른에게 다시 찾아보라고 이야기하는 자리로 한 칸 더 들어가 있었다.
규칙이 있는 놀이 한 칸 안에 작은 어깨가 자기 차례를 한 박자 더 또렷하게 자리하고 있다는 게, 출근버스 안에서 한 번 더 또렷해졌다.
수요일 (4/29) – 봄 곤충 그림자와 반딧불 야광 막대
수요일 알림장은 새벽 6시 33분쯤 들어왔다. ‘봄 곤충 그림자 찾아보기 놀이를 해보았다’는 첫 줄에 이어, 어떤 곤충 친구가 있는지 둘러보고 이름을 이야기 해보았다는 다음 줄, 그리고 ‘‘나비~ 벌~ 애벌레~’ 등 다양한 곤충의 이름을 말해보고 제공해주었더니 나비와 애벌레 종이를 들고 흔들면서 신나게 나비야 노래를 부르면서 신체 표현하였다’는 다음 줄에서, ‘나비~ 벌~ 애벌레~’라는 세 곤충 이름이 따옴표 안에 차례로 들어와 있었다. 두 주 전 봄 곤충이 한 줄에 들어왔던 자리가, 이번 주는 그 세 종류 이름이 작은 입에서 차례로 나오는 자리로 한 칸 더 들어가 있었다.
바닥에 붙어 있는 그림자 찾기를 해보았고, ‘이 곤충은 어디 있나요?’라는 말에 집중하여 들어보고 그림자 위에 올려놓으면서 일대일 대응 놀이를 해보았다는 다음 줄에서, ‘일대일 대응 놀이’가 한 주 만에 같은 자리에 자리하고 있었다. 관심이 없는지 한 번 시도한 뒤 바로 ‘나비야~’라고 부르면서 애벌레를 들고 흔들어보며 즐거워하였다는 다음 줄에서 짧게 웃었다. 한 줄 안에 작은 어깨가 어른의 활동을 한 칸 비켜서 자기 식으로 노는 자리도 자연스럽게 자리하고 있었다.
가장 길게 멈췄던 줄은 그 다음이었다. ‘반딧불에 대해서 이야기를 나누어보고 반딧불이에서 불이 나오듯 야광 막대를 똑똑~ 부러뜨리자 불이 나오는 것을 보고 신기한지 ‘이야~ 우와~’를 반복하며 탐색하는 모습’이라는 한 줄이었다. ‘이야~ 우와~’라는 네 글자가 따옴표 안에 들어와 있었다. ‘반딧불’과 ‘야광 막대’와 ‘똑똑~’이라는 세 표현이 같은 한 줄에 같이 들어와 있었다. 어둠 속에서 한 칸씩 작은 불빛이 들어오는 자리가 알림장에 처음 자리한 줄이었다.
이번에는 손에 끼우고 불을 끄고서 반딧불이가 되어 흔들흔들~ 흔들어서 사랑하는 친구를 찾아보기 놀이를 하며 즐거워했다는 다음 줄에서, ‘반딧불이가 되어’라는 표현에 잠시 멈췄다. 한 주 전 ‘나비가 되어’, 그 전에 ‘새가 된 것처럼’에 이어, 이번 주는 작은 빛 한 칸이 되는 자리로 한 칸 더 옮겨와 있었다.
산책을 나가서 반딧불이 찾아보기 놀이를 해보았으나 반딧불은 찾지 못하고 예쁜 꽃을 찾아보며 즐겁게 놀이했다는 마지막 줄에서, ‘반딧불은 찾지 못하고’라는 표현이 따라왔다. 어른의 한 칸 무리한 시도가 한 칸 비켜서 다시 꽃 자리로 돌아오는 자연스러운 마무리였다.
목요일 ~ 금요일 (4/30~5/1) – 휴원 평일
이 두 평일은 어린이집이 휴원인 날들이었다. 목요일은 임시 휴원이었고, 금요일은 근로자의 날 휴일이 자리한 평일이었다. 평일 다섯 칸 중 두 칸이 가정에 자리하는 자리가 한 주 안에 들어와 있었다.
목요일 거실에서 작은 어깨가 한 손에 작은 야광 막대를 한 번 더 들어보는 자리가 한 시간쯤 머물렀다. 어제 어린이집에서 본 그 빛 한 칸이 거실 한쪽에서 다시 한 번 들어왔다 나가는 자리였다. 어두운 거실 한가운데에서 작은 손이 작은 빛 한 칸을 들고 한 박자 머무는 모습을 잠시 바라봤다.
금요일은 어른들도 같이 쉬는 평일이었다. 가족 네 명이 평일 한 칸을 같이 보내는 자리가 두 달 전 50일 기념 가족 촬영에 이어 또 한 번 자리하고 있었다. 작은 어깨가 부모 양쪽에 한 손씩 잡고 거실 한 칸을 한 바퀴 도는 자리가 그 평일에 들어와 있었다.
저녁에 가방 안을 비웠다. 도시락통 하나, 이불 한 장, 토끼인형 하나, 그리고 신발 끝에 묻은 작은 자국. 거실 한쪽 약 봉투 자리에는 월요일에 다녀온 병원의 새 봉투가 한 개 자리해 있었다.
한 주를 마치며

The fourth week of April 2026 began. On the last page of the previous week I had wished that “umma~” and “appa~” would be heard once beside the family itself rather than the family photo, and that the first question “mwoya?” would take one more line. Those two wishes did not get direct answers this week, but in slightly different places, two new words walked in — “spring picnic” and “firefly.” On Tuesday, a spring picnic and a lunch box. On Tuesday, “ggok-ggok hide~” and “found you~” inside hide-and-seek. On Wednesday, watching a glow stick snap and light up: “ee-ya~ wow~” repeated again and again. Thursday and Friday were closed weekdays; out of five weekdays, only two carried a daycare note. The week also carried one heavier line. The mother’s early-morning message on Monday said her runny nose hadn’t really improved and her cough with phlegm seemed to have grown a bit worse, so they’d stop by the clinic before drop-off. The medicine pouch corner — empty for a month — was due to fill back up by one new packet. Lying down beside her, it became clear once more that the spring-picnic slot and the medicine-pouch slot were sitting inside the same week.
Monday (4/27) – Drop-off after a clinic visit
Around 12:17 AM on Monday, the mother left a short note to the new teacher. That over the weekend they had stayed home and rested, played well, and at the cultural center she had even become a frog. But her runny nose still hadn’t really cleared, and the cough with phlegm seemed to have grown a bit, so they were going to stop by the clinic before daycare today, just to be sure — they might be a little late. A line in the message that said the medicine-pouch slot in the living room — empty for a week — was due to be filled by one more packet.
There was no daycare note today. The clinic stop pushed the first weekday’s drop-off back by one slot, and inside that day, the slot for a daycare line stayed empty by one notch. A slot where her small shoulders sat briefly in a small clinic chair took its place inside that weekday.
Tuesday (4/28) – Spring picnic and “found you~ WooRin~”
Tuesday’s note arrived around 7:14 AM. The first line said they had gone on a spring picnic. “Spring picnic” — three characters new in the notes. A month ago, spring flowers had first walked in; this week, that same spring had moved one notch deeper, into the word “picnic,” sitting one beat over.
The next line said a spring picnic of course means a lunch box, and when the teacher had asked “What food do I like?” they had packed kimbap, bread, and various other items, then said “yum-yum~” eating them. “What food do I like?” sat inside quotation marks. After last week’s insect-name imitations missing one syllable each, this week a grown-up’s question now sat inside quotation marks too.
The next line said since they were on a picnic, they should play, so she had given herself to the rhythm, danced happily, sung along with friends, and done body movements. The line after said when the songs ended, they had played “ggok-ggok hide~ hide-and-seek~.” “Hide-and-seek~” — five characters sat inside quotation marks. “Ggok-ggok hide~” and “hide-and-seek~” sitting together inside one line was a first.
The line I stayed at longest came next. “At my call of ‘Are you all hidden? Here I come~’ she waited, giggling cutely. And when I said, ‘Found you~ WooRin~,’ she just smiled, kept her head down, and said ‘nini~’ over and over, telling me to keep finding her.” “Found you~ WooRin~” and “nini~” sat inside quotation marks, in turn. Two months ago, “ni-ni-ni~” had been her way of calling the new teacher; this week, that same syllable had moved one notch deeper — “nini~” pointing to herself, asking the grown-up to look for her again.
Inside one rule-based game, a small slot where her small shoulders took her own turn one beat more clearly became one notch clearer on the commuter bus too.
Wednesday (4/29) – Spring insect shadows and a firefly glow stick
Wednesday’s note arrived around 6:33 AM. The first line said they had played at finding the shadows of spring insects. The line after said they had looked around at which insect friends were there and talked about their names. The line after said when she heard “nabi~ beol~ aebeolre~” (butterfly~ bee~ caterpillar~) and was given paper insects, she had held a butterfly and a caterpillar, shaken them while singing the Butterfly song, and expressed it with her body. “Nabi~ beol~ aebeolre~” — three insect names sat inside quotation marks, in turn. Two weeks ago, spring insects had walked into one line; this week, all three of their names had moved one notch deeper — coming out of her own small mouth, in turn.
The next line said they had played at finding shadows stuck to the floor, and at the question “Where is this insect?” she had listened carefully and placed the insect on top of the shadow, doing one-to-one matching. “One-to-one matching” had walked back into the page, one week later. The line after said she hadn’t seemed all that interested, so after one try she had just said “Butterfly~” and shaken a caterpillar happily — I smiled. Inside one line, a small spot where she stepped aside from a grown-up’s activity and played her own way had also settled in naturally.
The line I stayed at longest came next. “We talked about fireflies, and when we snapped a glow stick — ‘tok-tok~’ — and light came out as if from a firefly, she had been amazed and explored, repeating ‘ee-ya~ wow~.'” “Ee-ya~ wow~” sat inside quotation marks. “Firefly,” “glow stick,” and “tok-tok~” all sat inside the same line. A slot for tiny lights coming on in the dark, one notch at a time, had walked into a daycare line for the first time.
The next line said she had then put the glow sticks on her hands, the lights had been turned off, and she had become a firefly herself, swinging side to side to find a friend she loved. I paused on “becoming a firefly.” A week ago, “becoming a butterfly”; before that, “as if she became a bird.” This week, that same form had moved one notch over — into becoming a small notch of light.
The last line said they had also gone for a walk to find real fireflies, but didn’t find any, so they had searched for pretty flowers instead and played happily. I paused on “didn’t find any fireflies.” A grown-up’s slightly too-far attempt, stepping back into the simple slot of finding flowers — a natural little closing.
Thursday and Friday (4/30–5/1) – Closed weekdays
These two weekdays were closed days at daycare. Thursday was a temporary closing, and Friday was Labor Day. Out of five weekdays, two slots stayed at home this week.
On Thursday in the living room, her small shoulders held a small glow stick in her hand once more for about an hour. The single notch of light she had seen at daycare yesterday came back through our living room once. I watched briefly as the small hand held that small notch of light for one quiet beat in the middle of the darkening room.
Friday was a weekday the grown-ups also rested. A slot where four family members spent one weekday together — after the 50-day photoshoot two months ago — took its place again. Her small shoulders took both parents’ hands, one on each side, and walked one slow loop around the living room.
In the evening I emptied her bag. A lunchbox, a sleep blanket, a rabbit doll, and one or two more tiny scuff marks on the toe of her sneakers. The medicine pouch corner in the living room held one new packet from Monday’s clinic visit.
Wrapping up the week
This was a week where a spring picnic and a firefly walked in together. On Monday, an early-morning parent message and an empty daycare-line slot took the day. On Tuesday, the new phrase “spring picnic” and “ggok-ggok hide~,” “hide-and-seek~,” “found you~ WooRin~,” and “nini~” all sat inside one line in turn. On Wednesday, “nabi~ beol~ aebeolre~” — three insect names — and “ee-ya~ wow~” in front of the light arrived together. Thursday and Friday were closed weekdays.
Both wishes from last week were answered in slightly different places. “Umma~ appa~” didn’t come precisely beside the family in person, but a single Friday where all four family members spent one weekday together was, in itself, one notch of answer. Lying down beside her, I wished, quietly, that next week the medicine pouch corner would stay empty for another week, and that one more line of a grown-up’s question would walk out of her small mouth.
