2026년 2월의 세 번째 주가 시작됐다. 지난주 마지막 페이지에 설 명절 직후 평일 한 칸에 평소처럼 한 줄이 다시 자리하길, 그 한 줄 안에 두 단어 문장이 한 번 더 따옴표 안에 들어오길 적었는데, 이번 주는 그 두 줄이 같은 한 줄 안에서 답을 받은 한 주였다. 월요일과 화요일과 수요일이 설 명절 연휴로 한 칸씩 비어 있었고, 목요일이 한 주의 첫 등원이었다. 그 첫 등원 알림장 한 줄에 따옴표 안 ‘읽어줘’라는 세 글자가 들어와 있었다. 한 주 전 따옴표 안에 처음 자리했던 세 두 단어 문장 중 하나가, 한 주 사이에 알림장 안에서 다시 한 번 적힌 자리였다. 연휴 동안 부모님 댁에 다녀왔다. 거실에서 한복을 한 번 더 입어 보여드렸고, 떡국을 한 그릇 천천히 떠 먹였다. 평일에 같이 살지 않는 설이와 우리도 짧게 한 번씩 만나고 왔다. 한복으로 시작된 두 번째 명절이 작은 어깨에 한 칸 더 자리하고 있었다. 잠든 옆에 누워, 한 주가 두 칸만 평일로 자리한 이번 주의 모양을 한 번 더 짚어봤다.
월요일 ~ 수요일 (2/16~2/18) – 설 명절 연휴
이 세 평일은 어린이집이 닫힌 날이었다. 2월 17일이 설 당일이었고, 2월 16일과 18일이 연휴 자리에 같이 들어가 있었다. 부모님 댁에는 일요일 저녁에 도착해 화요일 저녁까지 머물렀다.
설 당일 아침, 거실 한쪽에 한복을 다시 한 번 입혀 보여드렸다. 어린이집 수요일에 같은 한복을 입고 세배 연습을 했던 한 줄이 한 주 전 알림장에 적혀 있었는데, 이번 주는 그 연습이 부모님 앞에서 한 번 더 펼쳐졌다. 부모님 두 분 앞에서 작은 어깨가 양손을 모으고 한 칸 천천히 절을 했고, 절을 마친 뒤에는 떡국을 한 그릇 천천히 떠 먹었다. 한복 위에 한 살이 한 칸 자리한 자리였다.
설이와 우리도 거실 한구석에서 천천히 한 번씩 다가왔다 멀어졌다 했다. 평일에 같이 살지 않는 두 친구를 한 번씩 쓰다듬고 온 게, 한 주의 한 칸을 따뜻하게 덮어 주었다. 명절이 끝나는 수요일 저녁 집으로 돌아오는 차 안에서 작은 어깨가 잠들었고, 다음 날 등원 가방을 다시 한 번 정리했다.
목요일 (2/19) – 다시 들어온 ‘읽어줘’
목요일은 한 주의 첫 등원이었다. 출근버스 정류장에 7시 10분쯤 도착했다. 알림장은 7시 35분쯤 들어왔다. 한 주 만에 다시 받는 알림장 한 줄이었다. 첫 줄에서 ‘스스로 하고 싶은 놀이를 선택하며 주도적으로 활동하는 모습을 보여주었다’는 한 줄을 봤다. ‘주도적으로’라는 네 글자가 알림장에 처음 등장했다. 한 주 전 ‘두 단어 문장’이 첫 줄에 자리하던 그 위 자리에, 이번 주는 한 칸 더 추상적인 표현이 들어와 있었다.
소꿉놀이를 꺼내 요리를 하는 흉내도 내보고, 친구와 선생님에게 맛있게 만들어 주는 모습이 사랑스러웠다는 다음 줄에서, ‘만들어 주는 모습’이라는 표현에 잠시 멈췄다. 한 달 전 친구에게 장난감을 건네주던 그 손이, 이번 주는 만든 음식을 만들어 주는 자리로 한 칸 더 안쪽에 들어와 있었다. 받는 손과 주는 손에서 이제 만드는 손까지, 한 줄 안에 세 박자로 적혀 있었다.
가장 길게 멈췄던 줄은 그 다음이었다. ‘또 책을 가져와 ‘읽어줘’ 하며 관심을 표현하기도 했다. 그림을 가리키며 집중해서 보는 모습에서 성장과 호기심이 느껴졌다’는 한 줄이었다. ‘읽어줘’라는 세 글자가 따옴표 안에 들어와 있었다. 한 주 전 따옴표 안에 처음 자리했던 세 두 단어 문장 중 하나가, 한 주 사이에 알림장에 또 한 번 적힌 줄이었다. ‘읽어줘’에서 ‘읽어’와 ‘줘’가 한 박자씩 분리되어 있는 게, 이번 줄에서 한 번 더 또렷하게 읽혔다.
자신의 생각과 의사를 표현하며 놀이를 이끌어가는 모습이 기특하고 많이 자랐다는 생각이 드는 하루였다는 다음 줄에서, ‘놀이를 이끌어가는 모습’이라는 표현이 알림장에 처음 등장했다. 한 칸 더 능동적인 자리가 알림장 한 줄에 자리하고 있었다. 앞으로도 주도적인 모습과 따뜻한 마음을 응원하겠다는 마지막 줄에서, ‘응원할게요’라는 다섯 글자가 따라왔다.
금요일 (2/20) – 짧은 한 주 마무리
금요일 알림장은 7시 31분쯤 들어왔다. 아침저녁으로 기온차가 크다는 한 줄, 건강에 유의하시고 즐거운 주말 보내라는 한 줄. 두 줄이었다. ‘기온차가 크다’는 표현에 잠시 멈췄다. 한 주 전 ‘입춘’이라는 절기 단어가 들어왔던 자리에, 이번 주는 그 절기가 어른들의 건강 한 줄로 옮겨와 있었다.
퇴근하고 집에 돌아가 가방 안을 비웠다. 도시락통 하나, 그리고 신발 끝에 묻은 작은 자국. 거실 한쪽 약 봉투 자리는 한 주 더 비어 있었다. 한 주의 평일 두 칸이 그 자리에 그대로 자리하고 있었지만, 약 봉투 자리는 평일 두 칸 동안 한 번도 새 봉투가 들어오지 않은 자리에 있었다.
한 주를 마치며
이번 주는 평일 두 칸만 알림장이 자리한 한 주였다. 월·화·수가 설 명절 연휴로 비어 있었고, 목요일에 첫 등원 알림장 한 줄에 ‘주도적으로’와 ‘읽어줘’가 같은 한 주에 차례로 들어왔다. 금요일에는 ‘기온차가 크다’는 짧은 두 줄로 한 주가 닫혔다.
지난주 마지막 페이지에 빌었던 두 줄은 같은 한 줄 안에서 답을 받았다. 잠든 옆에 누워, 다음 주에는 평일 다섯 칸이 모두 다시 한 줄씩 자리하길, 한 줄 안에 두 단어 문장이 또 한 번 따옴표 안에 들어오길 잠깐 빌었다.

The third week of February 2026 began. On the last page of the previous week I had wished that one weekday would carry its usual line again after the Lunar New Year, and that two-word sentences would settle inside one more line, in quotation marks. This week, both wishes were answered inside the very same line. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday were closed for the Lunar New Year holiday, leaving the first weekday lines empty. Thursday was her first drop-off of the week. Inside that very first note, the three syllables “read it” — 읽어줘 — sat in quotation marks. One of the three two-word phrases that had first walked inside quotation marks a week ago had returned again, one notch later, in another daycare line. Over the holiday we visited my parents’ house. She wore her little hanbok again in their living room and slowly ate a small bowl of tteokguk. She also briefly met Seori and Wuri — the two who don’t share the weekdays with us. A second holiday in the same hanbok had quietly settled onto those small shoulders, one more notch. Lying down beside her, I traced this week’s shape once more — only two weekday lines, the rest of them empty.
Monday through Wednesday (2/16–2/18) – The Lunar New Year holiday
These three weekdays were closed for the holiday. February 17 was Seol day itself, and February 16 and 18 sat together inside the long-weekend slot. We arrived at my parents’ house on Sunday evening and stayed through Tuesday evening.
On the morning of Seol, we dressed her in her little hanbok again, in one corner of their living room. A week ago, a daycare line had recorded her wearing the same hanbok and practicing the New Year’s bow. This week, that same practice had been laid out again, this time in front of my parents. With both of them watching, her small shoulders had clasped her two hands together and bowed slowly, one notch at a time. After the bow she had eaten a small bowl of tteokguk, slowly. A single year had taken its place above the hanbok.
Seori and Wuri also came close, then stepped away again from one corner of the living room, more than once each. The chance to gently pet our two pets — the two who don’t share the weekdays with us — covered one corner of the week, warmly. On Wednesday evening, on the drive home as the holiday ended, her small shoulders fell asleep in the car. The next morning, the daycare bag was packed once more.
Thursday (2/19) – “Read it” returns
Thursday was the first drop-off of the week. I got to the bus stop around 7:10. The note arrived around 7:35 — the first one in a week. The first line said WooRin had chosen the play she wanted to do on her own and acted in a leading way today. “In a leading way” — new in the notes. Where last week the first line had carried “two-word sentences,” this week, one notch more abstract, “in a leading way” sat in its place.
The next line said she had pulled out the kitchen play set, pretended to cook, and had made things for her friend and the teacher to eat — how lovely that had been. I paused on “made things for them.” A month ago, the same hand had been handing toys over to friends. This week, that same hand had moved one step deeper in — into making and offering. From receiving and giving to making, three beats sat inside the same single line.
The line I stayed at longest came next. “She also brought a book over and said ‘read it,’ expressing her interest. The way she pointed at the pictures and watched carefully gave me a real sense of her growth and curiosity.” “Read it” — 읽어줘, three syllables — sat in quotation marks. One of the three two-word phrases that had first walked inside quotation marks a week ago had stepped back into a note again. Inside this line, “read” and “it” were broken into two small beats once more, each one clearer than before.
The next line said her expressing her own thoughts and leading the play was wonderful, and that the day had given a strong sense of how much she had grown. “Leading the play” — new in the notes. A more active small spot had walked into a daycare line. The last line said the teacher would keep cheering on her leading manner and her warm heart. “I’ll keep cheering you on” — a small phrase that followed.
Friday (2/20) – A short close to the week
Friday’s note arrived around 7:31. One line said the temperature gap between morning and evening was wide. Another said to take care of our health and have a happy weekend. Two short lines. I paused on “wide temperature gap.” Last week, “ipchun” — a solar-term name — had been the line. This week, the same season had stepped over into a small line of care, pointed gently toward the grown-ups.
After work I came home and emptied her bag. A lunchbox, and one or two more tiny scuff marks on the toe of her sneakers. The medicine pouch corner in the living room was empty for one more week. Two weekdays had walked through that small spot, and across those two weekdays, not a single new packet had arrived in the corner.
Wrapping up the week
This was a week where only two weekday lines sat inside the daycare page. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday were empty under the Lunar New Year holiday. On Thursday, the first drop-off line carried “in a leading way” and “read it” inside the same week. On Friday, two short lines about a “wide temperature gap” closed the page.
Both wishes from last week were answered inside the very same line. Lying down beside her, I wished, quietly, that next week all five weekdays would carry a line again, and that two-word sentences would walk into another small spot inside quotation marks.
